Welcome Autumn! Children’s Books and Autumn Activities for Kids

Autumn for Children
Autumn has arrived, bringing with it warm colours, a crisp breeze, and magical landscapes that make us want to spend quality time with our little ones — both indoors and outdoors — helping them explore and discover. To celebrate this unique season, we can offer children beautiful picture books about autumn, and take inspiration from them to create fun seasonal activities, helping kids observe and understand the changes nature goes through during this time of year.

Autumn Books for Children
Some of our books are perfect for explaining autumn to children and helping them see how everything around us transforms and evolves with the changing of the seasons:
-
Autumn: In this delightful picture book, children follow a sweet robin as he discovers how nature changes with the arrival of autumn: the air becomes cooler, the days grow shorter, and the leaves turn yellow and orange before fluttering down like butterflies. Through this story, young readers learn how everything in nature finds its own place, perfectly adapting to change.
-
Tree: This picture book not only talks about autumn but also explores the cycle of the seasons, inviting children to observe nature’s transformations through colours and rhythms. Thanks to its die-cut pages, little readers can truly immerse themselves in the beautiful changes of nature as one season turns into another.
-
What Do You See When You Look at a Tree?: This book invites children to ask questions: Have you ever climbed a tree or sat under its shade on a warm, sunny day? Have you ever wondered who looked up at its branches before you, or how long that tree has stood there? It’s a gentle invitation for children — and adults too — to connect with the world around them and cultivate a lifelong love of nature. A story about autumn, summer, and the magic of trees that shed and regrow their leaves, in a continuous dance of colours and shapes.
-
The Forest: This is an interactive book perfect even for the youngest children. It includes pages to colour, mazes, stickers, and fun facts about forest creatures — a playful way to learn about nature, develop fine motor skills, and grasp basic concepts through play.

Autumn Activities
These books can serve as inspiration for autumn-themed activities to enjoy with children, helping them immerse themselves in nature and observe its transformations up close. Here are some simple ideas to make your autumn days even more special:
-
Leaf Hunt: Give children a small bag or basket and ask them to collect different types of colourful leaves. These can later be used to make collages or autumn crowns, gluing them onto a circular piece of cardboard.
-
Chestnut Creations: Chestnuts are a true symbol of autumn and can be used in many creative ways. Decorate them with paper eyes and mouths to create funny characters for storytelling, or use them as stampers, dipping them in paint to make colourful prints.
-
Pumpkin-Shaped Cookies: What better way to spend a rainy afternoon than baking together? Here’s a simple recipe for delicious pumpkin-shaped cookies.
Ingredients:
-
225 g unsalted butter, room temperature
-
200 g sugar
-
1 egg
-
1 packet of vanilla sugar (or a teaspoon of vanilla extract)
-
400 g flour
-
½ teaspoon salt
-
Orange food colouring
Instructions:
-
Prepare the dough: Mix all ingredients and add a few drops of food colouring to make the dough orange. Let it rest in the fridge for at least 30 minutes.
-
Shape the cookies: Roll out the dough and cut out pumpkin shapes using a cookie cutter or a paper template.
-
Bake: Bake for about 10–12 minutes in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F).
